How to create a Facebook account
With over 2 billion people using the service, Facebook is the largest, most widely used social media network in the world today. Its official mission is to make the world a more open and connected place. It does this by connecting different people and by facilitating communication between them.
When you sign up on Facebook, you create a personal profile. You can use this profile to add other Facebook users as your “friends”. Once you’ve added a friend, you can share information with him/her in many different ways. Examples of this include, sharing a photo, video or article you find on the internet which you think might be interesting to the other person.
So how do you go about creating a Facebook account?
Follow these steps and you’ll be up and running in a jiffy.
- Start by going to this URL. (facebook.com/r.php.)
- Next, continue by entering a couple of details about you. You will need to enter your name, phone number or email address, type in a password you’d like to use, date of birth as well as your gender.
- Then click on the big button that says Create an Account.
- Finish up creating your account by confirming that the email address you’ve entered or the phone number you’ve entered is valid.
Remember that you need to be at least 13 years old to be allowed to create a Facebook account.
After creating an account, you’re good to go but it’s better if you fill in some additional details so that your account doesn’t look like a spam account or fake account. Sign in for the first time and skip the message which asks you if you’d like to import the contacts in your email to start building your friends list. You can always do this later, right now you need to make your account look legitimate.
Start by uploading a profile picture. This is a picture that people who search for you will see and can look at to identify you. You don’t have to use a picture of yourself as your profile picture but using a photo of yourself as a profile picture elevates your account further away from spam/fake account.
Facebook calls your profile area a Timeline. At the top of your timeline, there is a space for a large horizontal banner image. Facebook has named this space a space for your cover photo. Uploading a cover photo further helps Facebook’s algorithm as well as lets other users know that your account isn’t a fake account. It also tells other people that you’re active on your account.
Add some more details about yourself to your timeline such as your education, where you work, your hobbies and interests, your relationship status, etc. You can display as much information as you’re comfortable displaying. Finish all of that and voila, you’re good to go.
Why should you use Facebook?
You can use Facebook from an individual standpoint or from a business standpoint. Its great from a personal standpoint because you can connect with many people who you might have lost contact with over the years. Maybe you’d like to connect with your high school crush but don’t know where he/she has ended up after all these years. Facebook can help connect the two of you even if you don’t know where he/she is. All you need is a name.
From a business perspective, Facebook is invaluable. It has a user count of over 1 billion people who share their likes/dislikes. This is valuable information because as a business you’re able to target the demographic that would be the best fit for your products and/or services.
