Michael Hurley, 32, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, has been arrested for allegedly trying to kill his infant son by jamming a balled-up baby wipe into his throat. The incident occurred when Hurley was alone with his 5-month-old son on Tuesday evening at their home in Tarpon Springs.
When the boy's mother, whose name has not been released, came back to the house she saw Hurley pushing his fingers down her son's throat. Hurley claimed he was trying to get something out of his son's throat, and that is when the mother began screaming.
The noise alerted the neighbor, who came into the home to help the boy's mother. The two were eventually able to pull out the balled-up baby wipe out of the child's throat and saved him from choking. According to authorities, when 911 responders came to the scene, the child was bleeding from his throat and was taken to get treatment.
Hurley claimed that the incident was a "freak accident" and that he has no recollection of what happened. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder in the first degree and is currently held on $500,000 bail at the Pinellas County Jail.
