Social media has truly changed our lives in the past years. From better and faster communication between people far away from each other, toinstantsharing of anything that comes to our mind. From ideas, photos, moments, relationships status or anything else that happens to us at every single moment

While the average person spends 90 minutes per day on their phone.
These numbers are extremely high. That means that the average person spends an average of 23 days per year on their phone!
It gets even more interesting when the average person spends 24 hours a week just being online!

Social media causes anxiety and depression! Social media can seriously affect your mood. If you spend hours using social media every day you are a lot more likely to have moody behavior and report symptoms of depression.
Social media is directly related to the increase of cyberbullying. In the past, bullying was an act which was done face to face. With the rise of social media use, bullying has gone online and became viral. It is now a lot easier for bullies to bully people through the internet. Online bullying has results in serious damage to people as well as death in some of the cases.
Fear of missing out. When you browse social applications and see people sharing their ‘happy’ moments, you are a lot more likely to develop fear or missing out and depression about your life position. You are also less likely to be happy with your current life. With that being said, people start developing unrealistic life expectations when they see how other people live. What they fail to understand that what happens behind phone cameras is almost never real.
People who spend hours on social media tend to develop self body issues and self image issues. When you follow your favorite celebrities and other type of people you tend to think that their life is perfect as well as their bodies. In 2018, body issues is on the rise for many social media users.
Sleep issues. People who spend hours on their phone and social media applications tend to have sleep issues. With the increased anxiety follows into poor sleep. Social media has direct correlation and negative affects on sleep quality.
Addiction. We become addicted to our phones, we have to check it every 2 minutes to make sure we are not missing out on anything. This addiction triggers other parts of our brain making us more addicted to other things such smoking and alcohol.
