The number of inmates that could be accommodated was later increased to 48. In the 1940s the facilities proved to be so insufficient that the jail staff started digging in the basement for new quarters. New facilities were established shortly after this, and in the year 1959, a new jail and sheriff’s office was unveiled which could house 85 inmates and took a budget of $960,000.

By the mid-1970s, the jail again proved to be insufficient for the upcoming number of inmates. IN April 1981, the County Jail accepted an investment of $14,059,000 which went into the construction of a brand new facility on the County Farm Road. The construction of a three-story jail capable of housing 310 inmates along with the adjoining sheriff’s office began in June 1981 and was finally completed in November 1983. In the 1990s, as the population of County continued to grow, additional jail space for housing 471 extra inmates was constructed. The total capacity of the prison in 1995 stood at 825 beds.
