The Maine State Bureau of Identification (SBI), a division of Maine State Police falling under the Department of Public Safety, takes care of disseminating police public records to the citizens, organizations and other private agencies on request. Criminal records, arrest records, mugshots, background checks, etc. can be obtained by filling appropriate forms and paying a fee. Maine State Police handles the accident records. 1. Personal Visit – The main office of SBI is situated in Augusta. You can personally visit the office to collect any police records. A copy of police records costs you anywhere between $31 to 41 depending on the type of request you make. You can also visit the local Sheriff’s office, FBI branches, police stations or other law enforcement agencies with filled forms to obtain police records.
