Opened in 1889, the MCF or Minnesota Correctional Facility – St. Cloud is located in the state of Minnesota. It was initially known as the Minnesota State Reformatory for Men and was set up for the rehabilitation of the first-time offenders who are aged between 16 years to 30 years through special industrial work programming ventures. The facility was constructed mostly with the help of inmate labor. It has a granite wall, which is its most iconic feature. The construction of this wall got over in 1922 and was regarded as the 2nd largest wall made with the help of inmates.
The correctional facility was transformed into an admitting facility in 1996 for all adult men prisoners in the Department of Corrections for Minnesota. It happens to be a level 4 close custody correctional facility in the state. Although this correctional facility does not have the same extensive industrial programming now that it had once, the prison boasts of having the sole Barber and Masonry programs in the Minnesota Department of Corrections. The facility has also earned the honors of having the 1st woman warden who was appointed for running a male adult prison in the United States of America.
The correctional facility also organizes adult basic education programs for its inmates and gives them a chance of earning a GED. It also has the distinction of being the first correctional institute in the state of Minnesota. The prison facility conducts a couple of chemical dependency programs too.

There are different visiting hours for general population inmates and segregation inmates, which are as follows:
- General population inmates can be visited from 3.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Thursdays & Fridays. They can be also visited from 8.30 am to 11.30 am & 12.30 pm to 4 pm on Saturdays & Sundays. Visitors should register themselves at least an hour before the visiting times end. Else they will not be allowed to visit their inmates. While visits on weekdays can be between one to two hours, the duration is 1 hour if visitors come on weekends.
- Segregation inmates can be visited from 2 pm to 3 pm on Thursdays and Fridays. However, approved visitors have to schedule appointments by calling extension 5504 of 320-240-3000at least twenty-four hours before.
