Minnesota Department of Corrections St. Cloud History

Opened in 1889, the MCF or Minnesota Correctional Facility – St. Cloud is located in the state of Minnesota. It was initially known as the Minnesota State Reformatory for Men and was set up for the rehabilitation of the first-time offenders who are aged between 16 years to 30 years through special industrial work programming ventures. The facility was constructed mostly with the help of inmate labor. It has a granite wall, which is its most iconic feature. The construction of this wall got over in 1922 and was regarded as the 2nd largest wall made with the help of inmates.

The correctional facility was transformed into an admitting facility in 1996 for all adult men prisoners in the Department of Corrections for Minnesota. It happens to be a level 4 close custody correctional facility in the state. The procedure for intake comprises of taking pictures, as well as fingerprints of the prisoners along with their complete history, physical, and mental evaluation. Based on these assessments, it will be decided whether the inmates will be shifted to a permanent prison, which is most appropriate for their custody level and requirements. There are some scenarios wherein the prisoner can be housed at St. Cloud itself.
