Oregon State Prison
The Oregon State Prison, known as the Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) is a maximum-security prison that is in Salem, Oregon state. Since the state of Oregon has the death penalty, the prison has a death row, where those awarded death penalties are housed, until their execution is carried out. It is in the Southeastern part of Salem in Oregon. It is located on 194 acres of land. Since it is a maximum-security prison, it has a 25-foot high wall for security.

Number of Inmates
The Oregon State Penitentiary was opened in 1851. The prison has a capacity of 2,242.
It has special housing units where multi-custody inmates are housed. It also has provision for disciplinary segregation. There is a ward for inmates who have psychiatric problems. The death row houses those convicted of a death sentence. Executions in the state of Oregon are carried out at this prison by lethal injection. Death row inmates and other high-security risk male inmates have a 233-bed special management unit.
General population and DSU inmates can be visited all days of the week between 7:15 am to 10:15 and 12:15 pm to 3:45 pm.
All other inmates can be visited from Wednesday to Sunday and on all holidays from 7:30 am to 10:00 am and 11:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Appointment needs to be taken to visit inmates at the prison.
