Notifications: The Victims Service has incorporated a notification system wherein notifications and information about the offender are send to the victim. The notification program is of 2 kinds namely the AVN Program and the Victim Registration program. It is recommended that a victim register for both the above-mentioned notifications.

Automated Victim Notification Program (AVN): The Illinois Victim Notification Program looks to empower as well as protect a crime victim. The AVN also helps by notifying law enforcement agencies on the whereabouts of the victim for additional protection. A victim can call the AVN toll-free number and avail of any services every day of the week on a 24-hour basis. The victims can inquire about the status of custody of the offender. He or she can also inquire about the progress of the case and other information.

Victim Registration with the Illinois Prisoner Review Board (PRB)

Another type of victim registration is with the Illinois Prisoner Review Board. The AVN advises victims to mandatorily register with the PRB too. The Illinois PRB is the entity that determined the offender’s parole and supervised release. Another function that the PRB does is to send out notification letters to the victim weeks before the offender is released from prison. Therefor registration with the PRB is imperative as it helps officials have vital information that relates the victim to the offender.

This registration will help the victim get detailed information on the offenders' scheduled hearings. The victim can also request a special parole condition if registered with the PRB.
