Shawn Emmons is the current Warden at Wilcox State Prison, as appointed by the GDC Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. Emmons, like many other wardens, began his career as Correctional Officer. He then went on to serve as an Offender Rehabilitation Counselor and Chief Counselor. Emmons also worked as Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, before being promoted to the position of Warden. He has previously worked at Valdosta State Prison and Johnson State Prison. He is well equipped for the responsibility he has been given by the GDC – he possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and has also participated in various law enforcement training programs. Some of these programs are – Advanced Management Training, PREA Compliance Training, Re-entry Specialist Training and so on.
