Anniston Arizona: Crimes Statistics, Arrest and Population Information

The city of Anniston is situated 60 miles east of Birmingham and can be located in Calhoun County in the state of Arizona. It covers a land area of 45.64 square miles and has a population density of 506.3 persons per square mile.

The city was founded by Samuel Noble and Daniel Tyler who wished to establish a conservative industrial community where workers would earn higher wages and resist the temptations of alcohol and gambling. In 1871, the Noble family acquired hundreds of acres of land near the town of Oxford and the Woodstock Iron Company was established.

By 1873 a planned private community grew around the industry. The village was initially called Woodstock and the name was later changed to Anniston in honor of Annie Tyler, Daniel Tyler's daughter-in-law. The region was soon termed as the "Model City of the New South" and was opened to the public in 1883.
