Fresno California: Crimes Statistics, Arrest and Population Information

The city of Fresno is located in the central region of California, USA. It can be found about 190 miles southeast to the city of San Francisco. Fresno is a part of the San Joaquin Valley and is home to the headquarters of the Sierra National Forest and numerous institutions of higher learning including the California State University and the Fresno Pacific University.

The first settlers of the region set up camp on the Central Pacific Railroad in 1872. Fresno's name is based on the Spanish word for "Ash Tree. The settlements grew to be an agricultural community when irrigation was introduced in the 1880s. Today, the city serves as a gateway region to the resorts of Sierra Nevada.

The Census Bureau of the United States has noted in its records that the population of Fresno, California, was 494,665 in 2010. According to the latest estimates, the population of Fresno was observed to amount to 527,438 people as on July 1, 2017, which is a 6.1 percent increase in seven years. About 50.9 percent of the population is female and 29.2 percent are children under the age of 18. Senior citizens above the age of 65 make up about 10.3 percent of the population.

In the racial-ethnic demographic about 27.6 percent of the people of Fresno identify as white alone while 48.6 percent are Hispanic or Latino. The Asian population makes up 13.4 percent of the population and 8.1 percent of the people are African American, 4.4 percent are people of mixed races, 1.1 percent are American Indian or Alaska Natives and 0.2 percent are Pacific Islanders. Further, there are 19,720 veterans in the city and 20.7 percent of the overall population is foreign-born.

The median household income for the period from 2012 to 2016 in Fresno has been noted to be at $ 41,842. The per capita income for the year 2016 was at $ 20,141. About 30 percent of the population earns below the levels.

Crime in Fresno California

According to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program of the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), the city of Fresno noted that there were a total of 47,618 criminal incidences reported in 2016. Among these incidences, there were about 3,206 cases of violent crime, 39 cases of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, 158 cases of rape, 1,122 cases of robbery and 1,887 cases of aggravated assault. There were also a whopping 20,523 cases of property crime, 3,697 cases of burglary, 13,697 cases of larceny-theft, 3,284 cases of motor vehicle theft and 260 cases of arson.

Fresno Court Records

This is a significant drop from 2015 when it was reported that there were a total of 49,209 criminal incidences in the city of Fresno. These included 2,871 cases of violent crime, 39 cases of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, 167 cases of rape, 1,012 cases of robbery, 1,653 cases of aggravated assault, 21,606 cases of property crime, 4,429 cases of burglary, 14,184 cases of larceny-theft, 2,993 cases of motor vehicle theft and 255 cases of arson.

Over the year, there has been an increase in cases of violent crime, aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Most of the other types of offenses have noted a decrease, except murder which has maintained the number at 39 cases during both the years.
