- The iPhone's SIM is used only to store customer data like their phone number and billing information. - The SIM on the iPhone cannot be used to store contacts. The Sim cannot be used to back up data or read data. Instead, all data that would be stored on the SIM on other phones will be stored in the phone's main storage (or in iCloud) along with your music, apps, and other data. The iPhone has a SIM lock in most countries like the U.S. A SIM lock feature ties the phone to the carrier that sold it to ensure that it works exclusively on that carrier's network.   You are required to buy a SIM kit when you buy a new phone. The kit includes the 3-in-1 SIM sizes that fit all cell phones. Punch out your correct SIM size when you receive your SIM kit in the mail.
