Born on 2nd December 1997 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania De’Andre Hunter is a professional American basketball athlete representing the NBA Atlanta Hawks. Hunter did his schooling from Friends’ Central School located in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.
Hunter was named Pennsylvania Class AA Player of the Year averaging 11 rebounds, 21.6 points, and 5 assists in every game. He signed up with the Virginia Cavaliers’ men’s basketball team on September 12th, 2015. During the same year, he also refused to sign offers from The NC State Wolfpack men’s basketball team and Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s basketball team.
During his senior season in 2016, Hunter scored 23.5 points, led 9.8 rebounds, assisted 3 times, and blocked 2.5 times in every game. For his accomplishments during his senior year, he was recognized as the 14th best small forward post athlete and the 72nd overall four-star recruit.
After completing his high schooling, Hunter went to Virginia college in 2017 and completed his graduation by 2019. As a freshman in college, Hunter achieved the title of All-ACC All-Freshman team and the ACC Sixth man of the Year by scoring in dual figures in each of his 16 games as well as during all of his 11 games in conference. He also performed remarkably in his game versus Louisville when he scored the last 3 points at the buzzer to make his team win. As a freshman at Virginia College, Hunter averaged a score of 9.2 points and 3.5 rebounds.
Unfortunately, Hunter couldn’t follow through his participation in the 2018 NCAA Tournament because he broke his wrist during the 2018 ACC Tournament. There were also speculations that Hunter was going to declare for the 2018 NBA draft, but he clarified it by stating that he would come back to Virginia 2018-19 season.
As a sophomore in college, Hunter had an average score of 15.2 counts and 5.1 rebounds in each of his games. He led Virginia to yet another topmost seed in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
On June 20th, 2019 De’Andre was the 4th overall 2019 NBA draft. He became a part of the Los Angeles Lakers team. Thereafter, he was swapped against Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans. But he and Solomon Hill were finally exchanged to the Atlanta Hawks for athletes 8, 17 and 35. Atlanta Hawks made an official announcement on July 7th, 2019. But, De’Andre made his NBA debut with the Atlanta Hawks on 24th October 2019. He scored 14 points and 2 rebounds in his debut game against the Detroit Pistons and led to a 117-100 win.
ESPN wrote an article “Trae Young has 38 points, Hawks beat Pistons 117-110” on 24th October 2019 stating his achievements in his debut match against the Detroit Pistons. Even the Associated Press and Sporting News website notified about his achievement as a “Third-team All American”.
