Patrick Daniel Tillman was born in Fremont, California on the 6th of November 1976. He is best known for his contributions to American football due to his professional career with the National Football League (NFL). He is also known for his bravery and valor when he enlisted for the U.S. Army in June of 2002, shortly after the attacks of September 11 in the United States.

It was during his service to the American army that he was killed by friendly fire on the 22nd of April, 2004. Due to his unforeseen death, Pat Tillman became the first professional football player to be killed in combat after Bob Kalsu who passed away in the Vietnam War.
 

Pat Tillman’s Childhood

During his service in the army, Pat Tillman often wrote about how he drew strength from the close connections that he had with his friends, family, and other loved ones. Pat was the eldest of three sons and always used to be a part of competitive football from a very young age.

Though in his school days and early college days he was on the edge to choose between baseball and football as a sport to further continue in the future, Pat decided to devote his time and energy to playing football.

Pat attended Arizona State University due to his talent shown in playing football during school. He received the football scholarship that helped him to get a college degree and while also helped him to improve his skills as a player.

Beginning of Pat’s Football Career

Pat’s football career can be traced back to when he was a linebacker for his university, Arizona State University. Though he was of small stature as compared to the rest of the team, Pat was an excellent choice for that particular position on the university football team.

In 1994, Tillman helped his team in becoming the undisputed champions for that season and also helped the team in reaching the stage of the Rose Bowl for the same year.

 

In the year 1997, Pat Tillman received the award for the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and the Arizona State’s MVP player. Aside from his career as a football player, Pat majored in marketing and graduated with a 3.85 GPA. During his time in college, Pat earned a great many awards that entitled him to be a part of the College Football Hall of Fame award in the year 2010 and the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame induction in 2018.

Pat’s Professional Football Career

In 1998, Pat was drafted during the National Football League Draft to be a part of the Arizona Cardinals. Though initially he was assigned to be in a safe position for the National Football league, he soon graduated from that position to open ten of the sixteen games that were played by that team during his rookie season.

Pat demonstrated outstanding skills during his football career with the National Football League. He was also written in Sports Illustrated to be among the 2000 NFL All-Pro team by writer Paul Zimmerman.

Owing to his great streak at playing professional football, there were always contractors who were signing deals with him yearly. However, in May 2002 he declined all contracts that came his way to enlist for the U.S. Army.

Making a change from being a professional football career into serving for the United States Army, Pat Tillman was seen to be one of the bravest professionals of America.

He was regarded to be a hero due to the immense patriotism that led him to make this huge switch in his career. His younger brother Kevin Tillman was also enlisted into the army along with him. It was also during his service the army that Pat was killed in friendly fire in 2004 at the age of 27.
