Former American football quarterback, Peyton Williams Manning is one of the greatest athletes in his position to grace the sport with outstanding performances. With a net worth of $200 million, he holds several records in the National Football League (NFL).

The quarterback made 14 appearances in the Pro Bowl. In 2013, he completed 55 passing touchdowns in a single season. During his time as a professional athlete, he won the MVP awards five times, along with two Super Bowl titles.

 

Early years

Peyton Manning was born on March 24th, 1976 to Archie Manning, former NFL quarterback, and Olivia Williams Manning. While studying at Isidore Newman School, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, he helped the team win 34 games.

Although 60 colleges wanted to Manning to join their ranks, he picked the University of Tennessee Volunteers. During college years, he was the all-time leading passer for the institution, with a staggering 11,201 yards.

They won 39 out of 45 games, when he was the starter, and helped score 89 touchdowns. The university retired his jersey number, 16, for his remarkable performances.

Professional career

In the 1998 NFL Draft, Indianapolis Colts picked Peyton Manning as their first overall pick. During his rookie season, the quarterback racked up 3,739 yards, while helping the team to 26 touchdowns. While this was incredible, the opponents intercepted his passes 28 times, a high in the league.

During the 1999 season, he held the record for the most number of game-winning drives with seven offensive scores, which was beaten only in 2016. For the first time in his career, the quarterback posted a perfect passer rating. By the end of the 2000 season, he made a career-high 357 pass completions, 33 passing touchdowns, and 4,413 passing yards.

The first time Peyton Manning won the Most Valuable Player award was during the 2003 season, which he shared with Steve McNair, the Titans quarterback. During this period, he also posted a perfect passing rating for the second time.

 

During the 2004 season, he won the MVP award for the second time, while leading the Colts to the AFC South title. The quarterback won the Super Bowl for the first time in the 2006 season by beating the Chicago Bears 29 – 17.

Peyton Manning played an incredible game against Houston Texans during the 2008 season. Although the Colts were losing 27 – 10 in the fourth quarter with five minutes to spare, he helped bring down the deficit and ended the game with a victory, 31 – 27.

He won the fourth MVP at the end of the 2009 season while making an appearance in the Super Bowl for the second time. During the 2011 season, he underwent neck surgery, which kept him out for the entire year.

The franchise decided to release him, after which he signed a five-year contract with the Denver Broncos. Peyton Manning finished his career for the Broncos on a high, by winning the Super Bowl title in the 2015 season. The quarterback announced his retirement on March 7th, 2016.

Personal life

Peyton Manning married Ashley in 2001 has twins, Marshal Williams and Mosley Thompson. While the athlete was studying at the University of Tennessee, Jamie Ann Naughright, the trainer, accused the quarterback of sexual assault.

The educational institution paid $300,000 in a settlement as they didn’t take action four times. She also filed for defamation against Manning along with three additional parties, after the quarterback’s book came out.

Al Jazeera America claimed that the athlete was taking performance-enhancing drugs on December 27th, 2015. However, the NFL cleared the quarterback, after announcing that they didn’t find any evidence supporting the statement from the news channel.
